Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

  • What are the consequences of a poorly designed Wi-Fi network?
Below are some of the issues that occur when you start with a bad Wi-Fi Design. - Frequent dropouts - Devices not roaming - Slow upload/download speeds - Increased complaints to IT support Overall, a poor experience for your staff, guests and users.
  • What environments do you suggest you always do a predictive site survey?
A predictive Wi-Fi site survey should be done before any new/ upgraded network is deployed. This is even more important in the following environments; - Offices - Schools - Universities - Hospitals - Hotels - Major Airports - Industrial / Manufacturing - Museums Or anywhere, Wi-Fi is required for productivity purposes.
  • What is a Wi-Fi design (predictive site survey)?
A Wi-Fi design is a process of taking your business requirements for wireless connectivity and turning them into a high-performing and reliable Wi-Fi network. It’s the translation of your business needs — how many devices need Wi-Fi (capacity) and where they need it (coverage) — into a deployment plan detailing how many access points you’ll need, where they need to be installed, and how they should be configured to satisfy the demands of your users. The result is reliable Wi-Fi for all devices and applications on your network — and happy employees and customers.
  • Why is a predictive site survey important?
Think about the building you are sitting in right now. Could you imagine if this building didn't have a blueprint or a plan for how it would be built? A predictive Wi-Fi site survey is just like that. It is the best way to ensure the network being deployed is going to meet the need of your business and your users both now and into the future
  • How accurate are the predictive site surveys you design?
With our years of experience and the right information provided by you, our predictive surveys are typically very accurate with any fine-tuning required, able to be managed by your network once deployed.
  • How do we get our predictive Wi-Fi site surveys so accurate?
To provide you with the most accurate predictive surveys, we use a combination of the worlds leading Wi-Fi simulation software, our years of Wi-Fi design experience and information provided by you about your specific business needs and physical environment. The floor plans of your site are imported into our software tool and allow our Wi-Fi design expert to assign attenuation values (how much RF energy is absorbed) for walls, floors, cubicles, windows and other objects in the building. Once completed, we leverage the information you have provided around; capacity (user counts), coverage (where connectivity is required), environment (the physical space) and deployment considerations to build out a custom Wi-Fi design specific to your organisation.
  • Can a predictive site survey replace the need for a physical site survey?
Whether you want to redesign your existing Wi-Fi network or deploy new, this is absolutely possible. In many cases, vendors or resellers like to pull together a complete "dog and pony show," involving lots of expensive gear, such as signal and spectrum analysers to wow you with a big presentation about how powerful the particular hardware they are selling will be. We have been doing this so long we've seen the transition from the old days where companies did extensive onsite planning first, and nowadays, this just isn't required.
  • How long will it take to design my predictive site survey?
There are few factors that contribute to the time and effort required to design a world-class Wi-Fi network. These could include; - Size of the site - Complexity of the environment (hospital vs. open space warehouse, office etc) - Business needs and network requirements (designing for web & data is very different to RTLS and VoIP applications) Our project team will always advise on an expected turnaround time during our requirements clarifications call.
  • Does the Wi-Fi design differ if I have different application usages?
Yes, and this is something we ask you to determine before starting your design. Some of the types of networks can include: - Basis Connectivity (Email and Web Browsing) - High-Speed Connectivity (Video and Data Transfer) - Voice + Data (Wi-Fi Voice Handsets) - Location Tracking (Real-Time Location System/ RTLS) - Vocera Ready
  • What are the differences between a predictive site survey and an onsite site survey?
A predictive site survey is performed remotely and is the first step in designing a new/upgraded wireless network. However, an onsite survey is performed to either identify issues with an existing Wi-Fi network or validate the performance of a new network following deployment.
  • Do I need an AP on a stick survey?
Given our extensive experience designing Wi-Fi networks for various industries and requirements, an AP on a site survey is generally not required. If an AP on a stick survey is a requirement for your organization however, please complete the form below, and one of our senior Wi-Fi project managers will contact you to discuss this further. We partner with many leading onsite Wi-Fi survey partners who we can put you in touch with based on the requirements.
  • What information do you need to conduct a predictive site survey?
The more information provided to us, the better the outcome will be. To make it easy, we’ve put together our Wi-Fi Design Questionnaire, which runs through all the crucial information we require to design your new Wi-Fi network. In addition to the questionnaire, we would also require detailed floor plans or campus maps in electronic format - CAD files are the best, followed by JPEG, and at the least, a PDF can work in a pinch.
  • How does a Wi-Fi design save you time and money?
A custom Wi-Fi design ensures you deploy ONLY the correct number of access points specific to your business need and requirements. It removes all the guesswork of a Wi-Fi deployment, saving on infrastructure costs and reducing ongoing IT overhead once deployed.
  • What do I get in a standard report?
Our standard Wi-Fi design report includes information such as; - AP placement map - Suggested channel plans (both 2.4GHz & 5GHz) - Signal Strength (primary coverage on 2.4GHz & 5GHz) - Secondary Signal Strength (secondary coverage on 2.4GHz & 5GHz)
  • What do I get in a enterprise report?
Our enterprise design reports cover all the information included as part of our Standard Report while also incorporating the following; - Mounting recommendations - Considerations and general deployment recommendations (where applicable) - Expected network performance (based on design requirements) - Access point naming tables - Plus much more…
  • Do you provide onsite site surveys?
No, we don't provide these services directly. We do however, partner with (and design for) most of the worlds leading onsite Wi-Fi services companies. If you are looking for onsite Wi-Fi services, please complete the contact us form. One of our senior Wi-Fi project managers will contact you to understand your requirements better and make recommendations for the right company who will be able to assist.
